Default Weird idle problem and temperature gauge..

I have an idle problem with my 1997 supercharged GS-R. When I first drive the car it will surge when I come to a stop. For example I start the car up, the idle surges from 1,000 RPM to 1,800 RPM then it will drive fine and when i come to a stop it will surge again from 1,000 RPM to 1,800 RPM. It will do this until the car warms up and gets to operating temperature after that it will drop down to about 600 RPM, sound like its about to die, and then pick up to 800 RPM and idle fine. Also, I have noticed the Temperature gauge will often go down after it gets up to operating temperature. For example the car will reach operating temperature, I'll continue driving around then the needle will start going down on the gauge, sometimes almost until it goes back to "zero". Does anyone have any ideas as to what the idle and temp gauge problems are??

thanks
chris

my DA used to do the whole gettin cold thing while driving, and it was the thermostat. Apparently it got stuck open, but my fans are alwats running. After i replaced the thermostat, the temperature stayed constant

i agree check your thermostat when your ecu picks up this fluctuation in temp. it will try to compensate it by riching it up or leaning it out thus causing fluctuation in rpm
