Cant get into ANY Gear when car is turned on, need help !!
as i'am writing you this, i just got my car towed, and trying to figure out what the **** is wrong!
i was in 5th gear going 60 on the high way, busted a neutral, as i finish taking the off ramp, i cant get into ANY gear !!!
i pull over, force first nuithing...turn the car off, clutch in and i can get into all gears, so i leave it in 1st and start the car.......what happens? the car shakes and turns off ! leave it in neutral start the car, wont go into any gear agian!
what could be wrong? all fluids are properly met (trans, etc) could it be my clutch?
tia
EDIT: also, when i try and force a gear when car is on, the idle drops !

Could be a spring on the clutch fell out. If the spring got stuck in the pressure plate, then it would have the problem you are describing. I had a clutch this happened to, but the spring was loose in there, it would sometimes get into gear fine, sometimes it would get stuck and woudn't shift.

sounds like your slave cylinder crapped out on you or your master cylinder. have someone sit in the car and press the clutch in and YOU take a look at your slave cylinder and see if it is moving the fork or not.
i am having your same problem right now. did it take a lot of work to fix or did you just drop the tranny and tighten all the clutch springs? or did you have to buy a new clutch?

if he said he can depress his clutch when the car is off, i'd naturally assume that the clutch pedal is operating correctly along with the master and slave cylinders. i'd have the clutch checked though.
almost the exact same thing happened to me
I replaced the master and slave cylinders, still did the same thing. Then i had it sent to the shop to replace the clutcth and flywheel. When i got the car back, a spring on the old pressure plate was out.

could you update us on ur situation, this is exactly what my car is going through now. when i come to a slow stop, (in gear, clutch depressed) the car starts to shake but it stops when i put it in neutral. Sometimes it is hard to shift also into gears. Please inform us if u get it fixed thanks.

As others have said, this sounds like the spring or clip on your clutch disk has let go, and is flying around jamming things up between your disk and flywheel..
For me, the symptoms appeared first as follows:
1) VERY notchy effort going into 3rd gear
2) VERY notchy effort going into 2nd..
3) Trouble engaging first gear, and then very soon.. I could barely engage 1st gear without killing the motor..
4) limped it on over to a very kind friends house, and we dropped the tranny, and replaced the clutch disk and pressure plate with ITR equivalents, resurfaced the ITR flywheel too.
and yep.. a little clip above the spring had broken off of the clutch disk had broken free to cause havoc inside my tranny housing..
While we were at it, we also gave this old GS-R tranny an ITR LSD too!
My trusty steed now runs AWESOMELY as of tonight.. her first nite back on the road!!
Cheers,
Harry

well i took it to a local shop, and guess what? they said the car ran perfectly, and got into every gear with ease !
WTF ! since i know the guy that owns the place, i told him ill come over to help em drop the tranny and take a look
but damn, thats just weird

tracktime - what else would get damaged if this spring or clip on the clutch disc has let go or is loose? will the tranny get messed up because of this? i'm scared i might end up damaging something else because of this. how is the ITR clutch and flywheel combo on a gsr? thinking of doing this instead of aftermarket clutch. i don't have any engine mods cept for intake. thanks
I just had a similar problem.
My car stopped going into gear while the engine was running, but while the car was off it would go into gear just fine. Clutch slave operated as it should and all hydraulics were in working order.
Turns out my pressure plate is defective and it wouldn't disengage (this also killed my brand new clutch disc).
