ok guys i know there have been lots of posts these past couple weeks about smoking, but i can't seem to pin point the problem.Ok with that out of the way the car is a 1992 hatchback with a b16a2 block and a SIR II head (93)Running a chipped p28 by phearable.net. Ok, now the car smokes a grey smoke with a hint of blue in it and it dissipitates rather quickly.During start up in the morning it does not smoke at or nothing. The only time i get this smoking is when im accelerating/decelrating downshifting and using the brakes. For instance coming to a stop sign or a red light it would be all around me and is quite embarasing. Now it doesn't smell like oil and the car is running a little on the rich side but no black soot on the rear bumper. I did a compression test and it came up as 230-240 across all 4 cylinders. Now my closest bet is either valve stem seals or piston rings. And what about the check valve? i removed it and it seems to have brake fluid on the end which may be sucked into the intake manifold? any ideas will be greatly appreciated thanks alot.. sorry for the long post but im stumped!
If you see any sort of fluid in the brake booster hose, you've got some problems. Have you been losing engine oil? Does the level stay constant? What about the brake fluid? Try driving around for a day with the brake booster hose disconnected, just plug the hold in the intake manifold. Be careful cause you'll have to push hard on the brakes for them to work, but that may help you figure out your problem.
Try to do a leak down test, that will tell you if you have a bent valve or bad rings. It could be a valve seal though. a lot of people think that when a valve seal goes bad it dumps a lot of oil into the cylinder but it doesn't, it leaks really really slowly. So if your loosing a quart every two months or so then it could be the problem. but do the leak down test just to rule out the worst.
yeah i don't think a valve seal would cause the smoking problem you're describing. Hondas wear out their valve seals easily because they get the crank revved out of them an they wear out over time. Usually they'll smoke when you downshift because of the vacuum, i haven't seen any smoke at idle because of valve seals, but i suppose anything is possible. Plus if you're only losing a quart every 2 months then that's probably not it. I burn about the same ammount, and my car only smokes a little when downshifting. So i've got money on the brake booster hose.
