Default DIY dismounting tire?

hey guys, i was just curious if its possible to dismount a tire on your own? reason i ask is because i dont see the point of paying a shop 10 bucks to take it off per wheel. call me 'extremely careful' with money, i dont care lol.

i have heard about using a crowbar or some sort. also, dont forget to deflate the tire completely also!

i've heard about this too but haven't seen a conclusion whether it's a good idea or not.

Bump for a fellow rotary brother.

basically you would have to break the bead off the flange of the wheel.......if you get that far you will need a a bar( like a pry bar or as known in the bussiness a spoon) to take the top bead off......then you will have to lift the tire a bit to get the bottom bead up off the rim and pry like they used to back in the day.....will take you awhile have fun.......way to much work to save a buck......my opinion thou

It shouldn't cost $10 just to dismount tires.

Have you checked Wal-Mart's tire center for prices?

it would be super hard to dismount it without a machine, i think you should just say the 20 bucks to dismount tires, u have to find a place thats sell used tires, they'll charge you 5 bucks max for each wheel just to dismount tires.

well, i finally got the tires dismounted. my dad took me onto a naval base that had a auto work shop there and pretty much self service. just a buck to use their equipment. it was pretty cool all in all.

Wow. i used to work for goodyear. dismounting a tire without a tire machine = bad idea. trust me! you dont have any friends that work at shops that could do it for you?? i would try sams club or walmart, they mount and balance for like 8 bucks a wheel so i imagine dismounting would be close to nothing

Did you learn that the tire tool is just about a necessity, or could you have done without it?
