Does anyone have any experience driving their S2k in the winter- and if so what was it like- and did you have an issues doing so.?
Thanks

if i were you i would just buy a beater car also. I live in northeast ohio and i work for a dealership, and when we get to drive s2k's in the winter all they want to do is spin in a circle if you can even get traction to move lol
if you can afford another set of stock wheels, invest in a set w/ good all season tires (m+s) and be extra cautious......
there are quite a few people that drive their s2k seasonally, you just have to be smart about the way you drive.....

I am from Cleveland originally- C-bus gets like 2 snows a year, right? And when they do the whole town shuts down.
I think you would be OK since you are not getting 3-4 inches each night or week.
But I would invest in snow tires and winter rims.

I'm in the same boat
I currently have an 06 civic si
and looking at an s2k
just from my friends with s2ks they say that TOTAL days "undriveable" in winter is about 14
That i can handle, since i dont use my car for work

Even in snow under 4inches? How about packed snow? Were you getting stuck, or kept feeling the rear wanting to swap ends?
<---been considering getting a cheap AP1, but it would be a year round DD.
<---Chicken Wings, NY = Buffalo, NY We get snow.
Not that I'd be driving it in our famous storms, I have a 4x4 F-150 I can borrow for that. But I'd like to be safe in fresh falling snow and snow 3-4 inches deep. I have plenty of driving experience in the snow over the years, I just don't want to get into a car where driving it in the snow is an exercise in futility.

Im in MD. And winters can get pretty harsh..
If theres no snow on the ground, im driving it.
If theres a chance of snow im not.
I have a 4x4 suv to back me up.
But.. My neighbors friend had his 02 s wrapped around a tree because of snow, Im not willing to take that chance.

there is definately an art to driving a rwd car. i live on the top of a mountain, on the opposite side of a large ski resort... on year old tires from the dealer that had low tread i was stuck driving up the mountain in the snow to get home. and i waited at the base for a plow to pass(about 10 minutes) then let him get some distance because they go 3mph up the mountain which would leave me parked on the mountain.
once you stop on the mountain in snow with rwd you wont start again...so i managed to get up the steep part by the hair of my chin...then i noticed i was almost out of gas, and the plow and 4x4 pickups that had past me doing 30 up the mountain like it was nothing, were going to slow for me to get home before running out of gas....
so its almost white out conditions, i dont want to be stuck without gas in a convert. in the freezing snow storm... so i do the only logical thing, i pass the snow plow and 4x4 vehicles on an unplowed side of the road in my s2000....
the thing is there is a feel for rwd traction, ive seen offroad rally races with rwd cars competing rare as it is... but if that storm hadnt snuck up on me i wouldnt have been out... and when it snows everyone calls out of work so i dont get into trouble there, and even so the snow pattern in nj is that it storms for half the day then stops, the roads are plowed and its safe to drive again...on top of that there are only maybe 8 days a winter that i shouldnt go out...so no big deal, even in fwd cars no point in driving in bad weather instead of missing one day of work, because some other *** could nail you in the middle of nowhere without cellphone service.
i dont think u have to many mountains in ohio either, but then you may have a different type of snow, so the question is do you feel comfortable driving n the winter now with your current vehicle? its your own specefic situation, i think im worse off than you, and i made it ok when forced to.
upon reflection, i should have put the top down while passing the plow, that would have been a sight.

thanks mang- THe s2k wont be taken out when the whole city is shut down, im a senior at best buy and they allways need me, especaily during the hollidays, so i will have my pops drive me in his truck... But i appreciate the imput!
Im in Nj and im going to be driving my s2k all year.. when it snows out here they shut everything down.. So im not even concerned .. Ill either call out or catch a ride.. If you get caught in a storm driving . park your car somewhere safe and get a ride.. thats my advice.. and make sure you have some decent tires in the rear..

Yeah.. the smartest way to drive it is when the roads are as dry(no rain/sleet/snow/ice/etc) as possible, and to mainly use a second vehicle(4WD truck, etc.) during time of bad weather conditions. Its also best to split time between two vehicles during the year.. as you wont be racking up the milage just on 1 vehicle

I don't know what you guys complain about. I got home from school (30 mile commute) in 3-4 inches of snow (unplowed roads as it was still snowing) just fine. I was on stock S02's (pretty good tread). I can't say it was easy but I got home without a scratch
I started driving on rwd autos, so when I got mine, it was like going home. But I would suggest this: take the car out for a drive on a warm, dry day. When the tires are warm take it to its limits (this auto has overstear issues at the limits) and see how YOU handle it. If you have problems with this one issue, then you might have bigger issues in the largely exaggerated in conditions like rain, snow, and ice. Then you decide.
