I've done it on my car and it's a 2000 dx hatch.
here are the parts i've used
D16Y8 head
D16Y8 IM
stock D16Y8 intake
new OEM honda D16Y8 head gastek
new OEM honda D16Y8 IM gastek
new water pump
new D16Y8 timing belt
Vtecfrog OBD2B to OBD1 conversion harness
P28 ecu
arp headstud
hmm.........i think that's about it.
you can either use the oem ecu w/ a vtec controler to control the vtec, or go for the different route of converting to OBD1 w/ a p28 ecu (better if you going to tune the car in the future)
from what I've notice is the lower end rev faster compared to the old D16Y7, high rmp will have vtec (mine comes out at 5400 rmp to 7300 rpm??) you WON'T feel a HUGE difference but for sure you'll feel some difference. Do it if you can score those parts for cheap (but in good condition) or else just swap for a B18B if you're on a budget.
as someone mention, the tranny is what you'll want to look into as well, my car is still running the stock D16Y7 tranny w/ those stupidly long gear ratio. I'm looking for a D16Y8 tranny and it'll make quite a big difference compare to the D16Y7 tranny. You may also want to look into I/H/E after the swap since the stock D16Y7 header is just dumb.
IM me if you want more info and no I haven't done any dyno on it since it's not going to be supprising anyways.
