ECU Codes for EM1
Honestly, I don't know of a DIY way to get codes out of an OBD2 vehicle. Autozone did check codes on my Sierra (99) when I threw a few. Of course the codes went away and I haven't thrown any since. It's ok since it saved me about $400.

Funny story. We had a customer come in here from Autozone that told her the code they pulled was for the air fuel mixture not correct and she needed a new Mass Air Flow sensor for her 2002 Civic EX. So at least ask to see a print out or the actual code and match it up and don't listen to anything they say.
Oh and it ended up being a P0135 Primary Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction. New O2 sensor and good as new.

They're right next to the glow plugs for a d16y5.

Oh yeah I see them fail all the time. The parts department can't keep them on the shelf.

its the same way for obd1.
i own an em1, to pull the code just take off the passenger side kick panel, there should be a blue or green plug, and you just stick a broken paperclip in the shape of a U in the two pins

When the Check Engine light (CEL) illuminates, the computer (electronic control unit, ECU) records one or more error codes describing the cause of the CEL. "Pulling the codes" refers to the process of checking which error codes are recorded in the ECU.
