Replacing my distributor cap and rotor

Should I just take it to a shop and have them do it or do it myself? Also, which one should I pick up, OEM, MSD? Anyone on H-T sell these cheap? thanks

you could do it yourself if you are handy there is no way you could mess up
just remember the firing order b 4 you start.

Super easy to do. I use to take a piece of tape and write 1-2-3-4 on it and place it on the old cap so I could use it to refrence where each wire went. The rotor car ba a little trickey if the screw does not line up where you can get to it. You just need to turn the motor over (by hand using the crank pulley) untill you can get to the rotor screw.
At the same time you might as well change the plugs and maybe wires if they are old, or you just dont know the age.

the wires and plugs were changed around 15k miles ago, there platinum so i should be ok, ehhh or should i just replace them anyways?

i dont mean to sound retarded or anything but i like to see pics and instructions. I just dont want to jump into anything and expletive some **** up when it come have been prevented. thats just how i am.

get your self a haynes from the local autoparts store. it will have pics and a step by step. however look at your dizzy, there should be a couple of phillips head screws in it. remove them, pull the cap off the distributor. you will see the rotor, (i cant remember if it has a screw in it or just pulls off) either way pull the rotor off. install new rotor (it can only go on one way). take new distributor cap and align it the same way the other one is facing. pull the plug wires off 1 by 1 and place them in the same location on the new cap as they were on the old one. place cap back on dizzy. put screws back in. probably the easiest thing you can do yourself with the exception of checkin the air in your tires.

Step 1: go to auto store/ stealer ship hahaha...buy a OEM cap and rotor, might need spark plug wires as well, I recommend NGK blue...FTW! And sparkplugs I recommend Denson iridium plugs...
Step 2: Remove cap without taking off wires.
Step 3: find the little screw on the dizzy rotor and remove it, be very careful not to strip this screw. If you do you'll be punching yourself in the nuts later!
Step 4: put the new Rotor and tighten the screw up well, without stripping it once again, or next time you do this there might be a problem...
- If for any reason you mess it up, you'll have to drill this sucker out and get a new screw.
Step 5: Put in new rotor, and tighten up...
Step 6:remove one wire at a time so that you don’t fudge it up, remove the spark plug with a spark plug socket, then insert the new one and tighten up to 13lbs, then put on the new wire. I would start from furthest away first using the longest wire first and then descending to the shortest wire.
Step 7: Repeat step 6 in descending order.
Step 8: Turn car on, and take her for a spin, pat yourself on the back, because you just saved your self some money...and have a cold for me! hahaha!
