strange sound from clutch when disengaged! help!!
so a couple weeks ago i noticed that after i start my car and depress the clutch it makes a stange "spinning /chattering" sound. the clutch and flywheel are only about a year old if that. it is an exedy stg.1 w/exedy lite flywheel. any ideas anyone. fluid level is at line. clutch pedal goes in and out fine and when the pedal is in, the sound goes away.????????????????????????????
Just for grins, your terminology is backwards. You press down the pedal to DISengage the clutch. So your noise is only happening when the clutch is engaged.
Probably throw-out bearing, but here's how to check.
Idle in neutral, it should be making the noise.
Press in the clutch quickly & completely. A noisy throw-out bearing will get quiet instantly. A noisy bearing in the transmission will take a second or 2 before it coasts to a stop.

I have the same clutch/flywheel on my 89 Si, and it's doing the same ****. Mine started doing it instantly after i pulled a ricer 2-3. Sounds Like a scratching sounds, or dry leaves blowing across asphalt.
I think Mine was out of adjustment, and I likely damaged the friction disc.
