A few quick questions
I currently lease a Trailblazer, I'm sick of leasing and I am certainly sick of 14.5 miles per gallon of overpriced gasoline.
I would like to get out of my lease and buy a new Civic EX with Navigation and AT. When I priced it online it came to a total of $21,855.
My first question is what can I expect to pay for it out the door? We have 7% sales tax here, do you think it would be reasonable to expect $20K total? I've never bought a car before (only leased) so I am not sure of the fees and how much they usually take off the MSRP.
My second question is what mileage could I expect? 25MPG or over?
Finally, is there anything I should look out for?
Thanks!

You could def expect MPG in the high 20's mid 30's/if you drive very conservative. I paid about 2 grand in tax on my si but i live in NY the sales tax was 8.375
you would pay around around half that or a bit more. You could def get it for that price just shop around and get the best deal. I dont think they are charging mark-up on base civic coupes like they did the SI good luck with your purchase !

Tax and license fees will cost you about $1500. You might have to pay a destination charge which varies but typically runs around $500. Do not pay a markup on anything besides an Si. If they are asking for a markup you will definitely be able to talk the dealer out of it. Otherwise tell them you'll go to a different dealer who will drop the markup. They are already making money even if you only pay msrp. Check out http://www.edmunds.com to see the invoice for just about any car and what you should pay for it.

As for price, you could expect paying about 21K out the door with tax, plates, registration, filled-up tank, carwash, 3 free oil change. You could actually go to another state and purchase it there. If the taxes are higher there, you will be able to get the deductable of your cash you spent on taxes back since thats how it works. So you could actually come down to NYC and shop around
Might as well recommend ya Potamkin honda since their service is good and you get free lunch
.
U could get new 06 models already in the lot at some dealerships for less since 07 models cost abit more.
Hope that helped...

Please head my advice!
An Auto EX civic is going to be so boring. I made the same mistake when I bought my Auto LX. For 22k you could buy an SI w/ no navi and still be getting mid 20s for gas mileage, while really getting a kick in the pants performance-wise.
However, if performance is NO issue what-so-ever, Go for the auto ex

since your not gettin navi, why not an LX auto?
save you some money sacrificing a sunroof, 2 more speakers, steering wheel audio controls, and alloy rims.
(<----- waits for his LX 5spd
)
Ninja Edit:
forgot to add, if gas mileage is the whole purpose of your car purchase then i'd go with an auto lx or ex. but if not and u wanna have some fun, Si no doubt as said above

difference between LX and EX =
EX = LX + 2more speakers + moonroof + 16" rims + rear disk brakes + aux line(for mp3, xm radio, etc) + better stereo system which is xm ready + stereo control on your steering wheel...
so you're basically saving 1500 for all the things i mentioned above...
but yeah "save" yourself 1.5K for the moonroof and get the LX

The car will mainly be a beater to get to and from work. Originally I was going to buy a used car, but then I figured I would get a new one with warranty to cover me for a while. I figure I'll drive it into the ground and get a new commuter car to replace it in 15 years.
$1,500 isn't that much savings considering what you get, I think the upgrades are worth it. If it were a $2,500 or $3,000 difference in price it would be a different story. Plus, there are more options that you didn't mention such as 60/40 split fold down rears seats which is very important for me (3-4 passengers plus long cargo). The remote trunk opener is a must on a new car, etc.
