Default convertible top boots?

how many of you guys actually use the convertible top boots??? is it any purpose other than looks?

as per the manual it says to "use the top cover when the top is folded to help prevent foreign objects, dust etc from getting into the material and mechanism"

Tourneau cover in the old days covered the inside of the car without putting up the top - could unzip in the middle for just the driver's seat - was practical, but no one makes one today

I use mine all the time. It is rarely off of the car. Of course, I RARELY have the top up.
