Default common to need wheel alignment after new tires installed ?

I'm getting some snow tires and of course everyone wants to sell you 'road hazard' packages and everything else they can tack on to your bill.

The tire salesman said it is common to need a wheel alignment after getting new tires put on. They check alignment afterwards for free. I guess I can have them show me the alignment chart to make sure they are not screwing me.

I'm wondering if this is 1/2 way true or he's simply BSing me.

common to need wheel alignment after new tires installed or not ?

Thanks

An alignment is typically needed whenever the suspension is modified. And, he may be referring to wheel balancing, but I could be wrong. Wheels need to be balanced whenever tires are changed.

u may need an alignment if theres a drastic change in tire size. most of shops will show u a specs sheet when the work is done.

Pure B.S. Although it may be wise to have the alignment checked to protect your investment in new tires, simply getting new tires does not cause the alignment to change.

Not true at all.

Tires do not change the suspension geometry, they will only raise and lower the height of the entire car, the static height of the suspension is unchanged. If your alignment was good with spare donuts on, it'll be fine with 335/35/24s and anywhere in between.
