What's your defintion of a tune-up I mean things I replace and check what not,

Last tuneup I let a shop do it, $180 but all he did was change the oil, replace filters and I think rotate tires. And said everything else was fine.

 

an igntion tune up is very helpful, if you've got a few miles on your car, it will make a gigantic difference.

ngk wires - $50
ngk plugs - $8-9
rotor button - $10
dist cap - $15

Those prices are relative, I haven't paid retail in a while, so i'm not sure exactly how much they should cost.

The good thing is, all this stuff is easy enough to replace that anyone can do it. All you need is some hand tools.

Also while you're in there, the pcv valve, fuel filter, and air filter(check aftermarket intake filter if it applies). Use some good oil and don't buy cheap stuff and your car should feel a whole lot better when you're done.

 

A tune up usually just consists of the mechanic checking fluid levels changing the oil and checking the spark pluggs, distributer, checking the tension and edges of all your belts , rotating the tires and checking you'r brake pads.

Pretty basic stuff I'm sure you could do most if not all of those things your self. The only thing is on major tune ups like 30,000 and 60,000 they usually flush all fluids like trans, brake, power steering , and coolant. Hope that helps
