Valve Noise
Hello, I am new to the honda world. Just sold my 170HP dual webber carbed 1984 RX7 GSL...fun car, my "new" Honda doesn't come close in speed and fun, but I love her. The only thing that pisses me off is the valve noise...it need adjusting, either a lifter loose or valve out of adjustment...but the engine purrs, just noise when accel and decell...help?
It's a 1997 Civic CX hatch back (Non-VTEC 1.6liter)

The valves are quite easy to adjust, just a little patience is all that's needed. Mine always irritated me at an idle more than at acceleration. Maybe something else is loose, you should look into it.
All Hondas have a certain amount of "valve tap". Every single honda motor i've heard has that faint ticking. The only thing i've ever heard of, that made it go away is Amsoil....
But if it's excessively bad then it could need an adjustment. Never heard of a fuel filter change making it stop. How does that help?

Valve adjustment... just did it today with my car... no more (loud) ticking when I'm idling. I can't remember the interval, but my Chilton's manual for my 95 civic says that valve adjustments are part of the regular maintenance that should be done to your car. So, with that in mind, if your valves are audibly ticking and it's getting on your nerves, go ahead and have them adjusted (or grab a manual for your car and do it yourself
