oil overfilled!!
i just switched to a smaller oil filter after my oil change last night. My engine usually takes 5qts w/ the previous filter, but w/ this new one since its smaller, on the dip stick, the oil went over the 2nd dot of about 1/4cm after being warmed up...how critical to the engine as far as damage is this?
drain out the excess. its no gurantee but when its overfilled that can cause seals to blow out and drip oil. i ran mine overfilled before and ended up replacing the valve cover gasket (which was two months old), the distributor o-ring and the spark plug seals.
if it is too full.... and this is a general idea and my not be applicable to every car.....
the oil can be so full that when the crank is spinning it can lap against the oil sitting in the pan and wip into a sort of froth..... this is not a good consistency for lubrication and can lead to increased friction/heat/wear/blowyourshitup......
that is what i have read...... i cant imagine that it would be good for your oil pressure either....

1/4 cm ia fine, if it's too bad it can damage and reduce the efficiency off your catalytic converter which will eventually cause you to fail emissions but i wouldn't worry its's only over by a little, just hit vtec a few times that seems to burn some of my oil
Manufacturers put a bit of dead band on all those measurements... to keep people from making fatal mistakes... a bit like redline is not rev limit.
But since it's easy, why not drain it out and be on the safe side?
