Default Cold Start

I have noticed that my SI doesn't like the cold weather. When it gets around 40 or so it takes a while to start up. My roomate has an 06 civic ex sedan and that sucker starts right up as soon as the key is turned. Sometimes mine takes as many as 5 seconds holding the key to start position.

Anyone else have this problem?

As it has been getting colder I have noticed that lately is takes a while to start also, I don't know what it is maybe the starter is just not as powerful as the older ones

I think it has something to do with it being an ultra-low emissions vehicle. I heard that's why it sometimes takes longer to start.

The OP just stated his friends 06 Sedan starts up fine. My EX starts up fine in the cold. So it's not a ULEV thing.

Ever try turning the key to the on position, wait for beeps to stop and then turn key to start? It may help. I've noticed the Si doesnt like the cold for some reason.

^ I find that the colder weather makes the gears harder to go in as well. Probably because the tranny fluid isnt warmed up enough. The (-) weather will be a true test on how the Si performs.

I have been thinking about asking about this for a while. glad I wasn't just imagining it. It doesn't really get cold out here in LA but sometimes in the morning, yeah it does seem to take a few extra turns to get going. but I have noticed too, even in the middle of a warm weekend day or something, if maybe I haven't driven it in 24 hrs, it seems to do the same. I thought maybe it was a fuel pump thing. like when it sits, it takes a sec to regain pressure. not sure

Aye, it's not a ULEV thing as the Si's are LEV

Also, I've noticed, as stated above, that turning the key to 'ON' and waiting for the beeps to stop, then firing her up seems to help. Also, don't start driving until after the warmup RPMs drop from 2k to 1.5k. It seems to be at a good temp to drive somewhat smoothly until it's fully warmed up. Living in CO when it's been around 34 in the morning so far, I haven't had any real startup or running problems when doing the above.
