Default re-covering seats vs. new seats?

The seats in my crx have definetly seen better days. The blue somewhat faded and the driver side bolster is completely worn out even through the foam. How much on average would it be to go to a apolstery shop and get them recovered in a simluar blue fabric? I would like to keep the orginal seats; but if it is over like $300-400+ I might as well buy new seats.

I've actually gone to see what a recovering would cost and they told me upwards of $700 each seat. I told them no.

Price quotes from upholstery shops run all over the place!! You have to shop around and you have to be very specific on what you want and expect!!! Have the car there while talking about what you want done!!

I found a shop near me (LA area) that would do exactly what I wanted and with the material I picked. I was looking for a "stock" look and he did the work for $650, for both front seats, headrests, and back seats (it's a hatchback). I think that a price closer to $800 wouldn't be un-reasonable for the work required.

It is not possible to get exact matching material, so you have to pick something similar and then have all the seats done so they match.

The headrests alone are as difficult as the main seat section!!!!

I did all the seat removal and installation.

So, here is a photo of what I got.

wfocrx;

Just keep looking and talking to upholstery shops! Look for shops that do older domestic cars and such.

my pops does upholstery and what he does with seats that are in fair shape is wrap them with Decron, the seats feel brand new but doesn't cost as much as replacing all of the foam.

Oh and then afterwards he steams them to get all the wrinkles out. buttteerrrr

I've always heard that you could take the material off of the passenger seat of lets say a CRX and it'll fit the drivers side. I think there is a write up on here somewhere. If you could find some decent Si seats in a junkyard and put the material from them on there.

The leather seats in that CR-X remind me of old school 240Z seats. Very clean.

Wes V - you have a PM.

The last time I had them done in my accord it was 700$ and that was for really soft vinyl, it looked exactly like leather. That was the fronts, the rear and side inserts. I'm thinking of taking my crx down there to see how much to redo the del sol seats I have in there now. It was in rosemead I think, kreative interiors or something like that.

Yah I just looked it up, check them out here: http://www.kreativeinterior.com/

I don't think they replaced the foam at that price though and I'm sure the price has gone up a lot because that was three years ago at least.

Oh please;

You had them re-upholstered in "Gucci"??

There is no reason why re-upholstered seats shouldn't last as long as the originals. Of course that assumes you use material that is intended for that usage.

lol, thats my buddies car. Its not the hard leather either, the soft-breathable type. They also re-cushion it as well.

It was done by one of those old-domestic shops that re-do classic hot rods and such.

Those guys are the ones that have the experience and the hookup for material. On top, they have so much work coming to them that the price is cheaper.

Good luck
