HELP engine smoking
So I drive a 1995 honda civic with over about 165k on it. Trans rebuilt. I was driving on surface streets today, check engine light came on, when i pulled over at home i popped the hood because i smelled coolant. There was white smoke comming from the top front drivers side of the motor. The oil and coolant level were fine prior to this. oil is still fine, it's still too hot to check the coolant. Neither my sister nor myself noticed smoke from the tail pipe. and it's been eating up gas quickly.
i'm thinking head gasket, but i wanted to check if anyone else thought otherwise...

there wasn't any noticable coolant anywhere. It smelled like it though. I am still waiting for it to cool down before I check it. It was smoking where if you were to draw a straight line from where the oil cap is, to the edge of the cover. It was smoking from there. not any other part though. Which I thought was kind of strange.
update : heater hose busted, it's still fairly new too. any ideas what would cause it? i've been having hoses dealing with the radiator busting, and the radiator is brand new. fan switch recently replaced, hoses are being replaced as busting. any clues?
and i put an order on the head gasket and heater hose, so i'll update as time comes. but i wont get those parts until monday or tuesday.
thank you for all the help so far. If you think of anything else please let me know.
