Any suggestions on where to buy a good bolt on catalytic converter for a stock 99 civic ex? Also... what is a good o2 sensor to buy and where to buy it? Mines throwing a 67 code and it has 187k miles.

Should i just goto a muffler shop and get one there?

Best bet is our classifieds. It's illegal for businesses to sell used catalytic converters, and it's expensive as ***** to buy a new one.

OK. You're throwing CEL 67 which means that the secondary O2 sensor thinks that the cat is not working efficiently any more. This is the primary purpose of this sensor. I recommend replacing the sensor first before putting in a new cat. O2 sensors are rated to work reliably to about 100-150k miles according to the Bosch web site, so I would definitely replace it. And I recommend a Bosch. They're the ones that invented the so-called "lamda sensor" which is what we now know as an O2 sensor. So go to your nearest favorite auto parts store and get this sensor. It'll probably run you around $80-$100. All you have to do then is unscrew the old one and screw the new one in. (Unplug it first of course.)

Forget the cat for now. THey don't go bad that easily and the O2 sensors do. I've got a cat in a 21 year old mini van that passes a sniff test every 2 years. BTW - they are about $270 from NAPA so that's what you'll pay if you put it in yourself. DON"T BUY A USED ONE!

P0420,I had that code too, replaced the 02 sensor did nothing I needed a new cat, btw Bosch is GARBAGE, get a Denso brand 02 sensor

 

that is not true. I bought a magnaflow 3" for my turbo y8 just to see if i could clean it up a bit, and when i had it on a 5 gas analyzer it would have actually passesed a two speed idle test. I know that random technology makes an awsome cat and magnaflow seems to make nice ones as well. And i have a 2" cat that can be yours for 40 bucks shipped

Wow you got bent over for that price. I bought a brand new Denso (Honda's OEM brand for O2 sensors) for $55 shipped to my door from apwonline.com. It was a universal O2 by denso which means it's a o2 sensor with 4 wires coming off and no plug. All i did was cut the plug off the old O2 sensor and wire it to the new O2 sensor. Easy, cheap, and it's honda's OEM brand.

I used Denso part# 234-4209 on my 2000 civic ex secondary O2 (after cat). Yours should be the exact same thing. Mine threw a code 67 too and after replacing the sensor the code hasnt come back after 1000 miles. Hope this helps.

 

He was talking about the cat, not the O2.

 

yea I payed $50 shipped for my universal Denso 02 sensor too, not $450

 

thanks for all the suggestions. I will get a Denso most likely and cross my fingers it works and the 67 code disappears. Any helpful websites to get this part?

 

catco cat is a good cat... dont get the universal ones because those need to be welded on get the direct bolt on little bit more money but its deff. worth it
