Help! Question about replacing Oxygen Sensor for California Civic EX 99
Hi, guys.
I found out recently that I have to replace the oxygen sensor of my Civic EX 1999 2-door Couple (I assume it's D16Y8 engine). Since it's a California Emission car, do I need to get California Emission Oxygen sensor or that's not necessary? Can I just go to local store and get the oxygen sensor replacement for it? I don't live in California.
I know that the catalytic filter needs to be CA-emission approved... Not sure about the oxygen sensor.
Thanks in advance!

If you don't have to face the CARB check each year it's fine (and legal) to use a federal (also called a 48 state) 02 sensor and cat. However a federal 02 sensor may not play nice with a Cali cat and vice versa.

I doubt there is a CARB O2 you have to have. That only pertain to your cat converter. Any O2 for your vehicle would work. Denso or ntk o2 are good to use. EBay or amazon for best price. Check denso website for part number. Make sure to use desktop on their website, otherwise it won't show u if its upstream or downstream o2.

Re: Help! Question about replacing Oxygen Sensor for California Civic EX 99
Thank you for your help! No, I don't have to face the CARB check because I don't live in California. As long as the oxygen sensor works with the car and the catalytic converter (which is the California Emission type) then that's all what matters. I did look into the part numbers and the ones that are compatible are Denso 234-4733 (upstream) and Denso 234-4098 (downstream). Thank you again!
