Default Hondata, Yay or nay?

I have heard people that tell me not to waste my time/money with a hondata and just tune it with crome, wat do you guy say? The hondata I m looking at is the s200.

It all depends on what tuner you want to use. Use something that the tuner is familiar with and you will have a safely tuned car.

I have nothing but good things to say about the folks at Hondata. At Expo 3 one of them spent quite a bit of time doing some troubleshooting on my Hondata, and another of them spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me making specific recommendations for the best parts to use for a K motor, and how to tune for those parts.

Yes, that matters a hell of a lot. You might want to make sure you have the tuner with a great reputation first, and let him decide which system to buy.

Use whatever your tuner is comfortable with.

Exactly. I'm using Crome, and I don't think I would've done any better using the Hondata. It depends on the tuner as well, like mentioned before. My tuner is very familiar with both, but he told me to save my $$$ and use Crome. I took his word, and have no regrets.

Could you tell us more about your build and how it's tuned? Can you post a dyno?

Crome has every function that Hondata has, and is user upgradable, free, and has an open forum for problems/FAQ's.

However, the software is just the tool, like many have said earlier, only use what tool the tuner is familiar with.

Well, it's not much of a build. lol...It's a stock '97 JDM ITR motor with the one exception of having a DC Sports JDM 4-1 header, straight b-pipe w/ a Spoon N1 muffler. I have no adj. cam gears or upgraded fuel components. I'm not familiar with how to operate the program, but, my tuner advised me to save my $$$ and not purchase the Hondata for the simple fact that my setup, even if I continue to add bolt ons, will not give me any benefit. Basically all settings/adjustments were of the same capabilities as a Hondata.
Best numbers resulted in 190whp/133wtq on a Dynojet. We settled for 188whp/131wtq with a more significant gain in the midrange. I'll have to find my dyno chart tonight. George, may I email my results to you? I don't know how to post pics on H-T.
