Default Y21 Trans Problem.

Not too much of a trans expert, and i came across a little snag in my project.

I tore apart my completely stock Y21 Trans to replace a cracked race in a bearing on the countershaft. Upon putting everything back together, i verified everything was good via Service Manual and that the input shaft spun freely by hand when in neutral.

Getting the top of the case on was a job in of itself, but anytime the case dowels finally slip into their bores, the input shaft simply refuses to spin freely anymore, and will only turn about 10 deg in either direction, like its locked up. Once the dowels are lined up i also cant use the shift linkage to shift it anymore. Pry the case up just a few tenths of an inch and voila, she spins freely again.

Anyone have any ideas, run into anything similar?

Basically the input shaft spins freely until the snap ring locks into place. Then its a no go.
