I believe the oil change light is based in the oil life% indicator.
I think it goes on when you reach a certain percentage I think.
Correct me if I'm wrong

30% indicates the remaining life. I believe the light come on at 20% or something close. If you want to be safe, just change it now. The 5,000 miles in the manual, is the longest you should go before an oil change. I change mine every 3,000 regardless of the oil light or the percentage.

You are pretty much done with the break-in period. Time to put some synthetic in that bad boy.

gotta press and hold the select button while it displays the oil life % for few secs until it reads back to 100%.
Then you're set. It does not reset by itself.

Your oil light actually comes on when the indicator gets to 15%, and will remain until you reset. Instructions are in the manual.

I changed my oil at 3,000 and it was black as hell, the oil indicator wasn't even low either. I would much rather do my oil changes at 3,000 then to go by that damn thing.

the oil life reader calculates the ammount of life for your oil by reading the revolutions of your engine as you drive it.
Some guys will floor it making the engine have more revolutions which will make their oil life drop at a lesser mileage than yours.
But then again the si is meant to be redlined...

It changes at 15%. But the indicator only changes at 10% increments.

The oil life indicator calculates the oil life by counting the revolution your engine has performed. In other words, the oil life indicator is just a panel instrument to tell you the recommended time to start changing your oil. It does not indicate in any way that there's only 20% or 30% of oil in the engine and you need to add more. It's a safety issue for people who don't know when to change their oil. Get what im saying yo?

I didn't care to go by the %. I went in around 4200mi. I just went when I thought it was a good time. After that, I changed to Mobil 1 FS at ~6900mi and will change again at 10Kmi.

Heavy foot?

I"m approaching 5k miles and just barley hit 20%.

Maintenance minder calculates OIL LIFE(not level) just as others have mentioned : according to revolutions of crank, how high oil temps get, and inputs from a few other sensors. It is there for a reason - to avoid excess use of oil. All of you people changing your oil before the oil life % gets to 10-5% are simply dumping perfectly good oil out of your motor and spending extra money/wasting oil before you really need to. Go by the maint. minder and not by mileage
