are you stupid? do you know how to pass smog? what does it matter what transmission you use? what matters is what OBD motor you have. with that motor, you will need the same OBD ecu, and have all of that motor's stock smog equipment. if its done right, as in stock just like the original motor, then you will pass.

its a legitimate question for smog. i mean cali is so strict you dont know what to expect when it comes to rules. for example, someone already mentioned ride height, if your headlights are something like under 26 inches from the ground you fail the state ref. there are some rediculous rules, and thats why he asked.

uh... what? I took a slammed car to the ref to be smogged for a friend (had to get 2x4s to put the car on the rollers) and didnt have a problem.

thanks for the clarification, but regardless, my point still stands. any question is legit if youre asking about a CA smog ref.

Why didn't it pass?

1st-gen B16A will never pass if you're running it pre-OBD and the casting date is older than the chassis.

A CRX must be running OBD-1 and all OEM smog equipment from a '94-95 del Sol VTEC to pass. Any mods (such as intake and header) must be CARB-legal.

The tranny doesn't matter for tailpipe emissions. It may even help a little due to the shorter gears and higher revs versus a GSR or LS tranny. Increased revs may help bring down hydrocarbons a bit. There is no way to tell what B series tranny you have unless the ref runs the VIN plate. To my knowledge, and per the experience I had with the ref at Southwestern College (Chula Vista), the refs won't run any VIN numbers.

clean the carbon from your combustion chambers, either go get it done at a shop or just get a spray bottle with water and squirt (not spray) water into your intake manifold while revving it. works very well
