Higher Compression With Metal Head Gasket?
I recently bought a metal head gasket as I'm building a D15B2/D16A6 hybrid and I heard that I can up the compression for more HP by removing the middle layer of the three layer head gasket. Is this true? If so, what kind of CR and HP increase can I expect?
Well, this is obvious because the less space there is between the head and block, the higher the CR. Thinner head gasket, high CR pistons, milling the head, many different factors can raise the CR effectively. But even at 12.0:1 you would only recieve an increase of about 7.9% of your current HP. But with this CR, you would have to run 93 octane fuel just to compensate. But obviously this is only for running a naturally aspirated setup. With forced induction, a lower CR is desired to reduce the chance of detonation. I ran a B18A1 at the stock CR because it was the perfect platform for turbo. T3/T04e .63/.60 ran my stock internal motor to pull a 247HP dyno run. Of course my 92 Integra GS ran many other aftermarket parts to achieve this. But I was just wondering HOW dissasembling the head gasket would help. Now I see.
