CRAZY intermitent 2nd cyl misfire (srched)
d16A vtec..(sohc zc) its obd1 new plugs, new wires, pretty new dizzy...a few weeks ago my car just started running on 3 cyls..at first i thought a wire popped off which has happened before, but nope all wires were on..so the next morning i started it up and it ran FINE throughout the revs for like another week, then like just randomly it would sputter and miss..then it would stop and be totally fine! now it came back and has NOT gone away..sometimes cyl 2 will not fire ..sometimes it will but after 3k revs..the car dogs and misses like crazy! checked the cap and rotor and they look great. I dont have a comp tester..but this problem is soo intermitent it doesnt seem like a bottom-half problem. No, im not running a 4-wire o2, but its been like that for a lonng time and ran super...any ideas?
ok...to the guys about the plugs and wires...theyre like less than 5k miles old..so you still think they could be bad? i took the 2nd cyl plug out and it look ok...how would i replace the injector? should i just replace all of them? is that a pain to do? dos this sound odd to any of you guys? like..how itll go from running on 3cyls to 4..within like 2 seconds?
hey you guys think that because im not runing an o2..therefore running really rich that my plugs are just toast? they really dont look too fouled though yanno...ahhh help i gotta get this thing running

what do you mean?
what do you mean?
coil=ignition coil
O2 would not affect just the one cylinder.
Neither would coil.
Only way I could see coil as a problem is if it's weak and the plug gap is too large on the bad cylinder.
could be sticky valve.
Some tests from quickest to most involved:
-when the engine is misfiring, check to see if the injector is working. Use a screwdriver or socket extension like a stethescope. Touch one end to the injector and put your ear to it. Check for steady ticking sound.
-try switching plug wires on the bad cylinder (don't rearrange firing order, just swap the #2 & #3 wires and see if the problem changes cylinders.)
-get a spark tester and follow directions. should produce bright white/blue spark. Not orange/yellow.
-pull all spark plugs. compare them and make sure gap is correct.
-compression test
-switch injectors around and see if the problem moves
this should get you started.
