Default Transmission Help

Currently I am having a problem with my transmission. I think I MAY have it figured out, not 100% Positive.

The other day, I noticed a supercharger whining noise coming from under the hood. Got out, messed with the throttle cable to get it to do the noise again. Wouldnt do it. It only makes this high pitched supercharger whine noise under load. I think it may be my Phantom Grip LSD in the tranny. Not 100% positive on that. This went on for 2 days until I got to this.

I was driving and came to a stoplight. Turned green, wouldnt go into first gear.. WTF! This was one of the smoothest shifting trannys I have ever had and hasnt ever done this before. So I dont necessarily force it in, but apply pressure to the 1st gear area, slowly let out the clutch and low and behold, it goes in. I go to get into second, its a bitch coming out of gear. Stopped for a few minutes, Made it most of the way home before it started again and by then I was to the point of not having to shift anymore.

Got home, Put the clutch in on my slanted driveway, dropped the ebrake, NO ROLLING BACKWARDS. I would also rev up the motor and it would actually go foward with the clutch all the way in. I am not 100% positive on this, but I am thinking my cable has stretched. I pulled it out and it seemed worn but not that bad. I could sit and move the arm off the tranny a good 1/4 or so up and down with ease. So right now, my clutch pedal is dropped, my cable is out and anyone have ideas of what the hell the whining noise could be and why my car was having trouble shifting.

FYI - This cable has 172k on it with an aftermarket clutch for the past 20k or so.

UPDATE : New clutch cable is in, NOT THE PROBLEM. Think its the phantom grip?

I think your clutch is bad. The problem if well before the Phantom Slip is involved.

Sounds like clutch. Possibly the pressure plate

I just put a new clutch cable on so that is definately not it.

OK, trannys off, clutch is off. Clutch looked to be in OK condition. Throwout bearing looked a bit beat up and worn, could that be a problem? Also, I noticed that the spring by the Throw out bearing looked odd, Anyone have a picture of what it should look like?

How does the clutch feel when you depress it? Have you checked your pilot bearing?

Pilot bearing looks fine but I am replacing it. Tranny is already out and I cant really describe how it was..

Someone was telling that the spring that I thought looked kinda funny is supposed to be clipped into the Throw out Bearing.

From you initial post, it sounds like the clutch is not fully disengaging. Can the clutch be adjusted on the cable transmissions?

The only thing left is the throw-out bearing, etc.

Etc.

You may want to ask Bense for further advice. He typically posts in the Tech/Misc forum.
