Where does the shifter play/wobble come from?
Guys
Most CRX's I've owned, had a pretty crips shifter feel. My latest project (89 CRX Si) is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
I can be in 5th gear, and physicaly move the shifter over to where it would be sitting if it was in 1st gear. Thinking this wobble/play in the linkages was worn-out bushings, I ordered the energy suspension stabilizer kit.
I installed that last night and it contained the rectangular shaped bushing that is bolted between the floorpan & linkage/bracket. The other 2 bushings were inserted in place of the single circular bushing in the other linkage.
I put the car back down on the ground and the slop is still there. Any idea where its coming from or where I should start to diagnose things? The motor is coming out of the car tomorrow evening so I'll be able to check everything out.

i have a transmission that acts very similar.
from what i could tell it is part #1 in the diagram that is rotating and allowing the slop.
cost $23 from acuraautomotiveparts.org
i haven't replaced mine yet, so i don't know how hard it would be.

I drove a friends crx that had the same problem, and his had many issues. the ball where the shifter is was worn by an incorrect shortshifter installation, all the bushings except one were worn, the bitch pin was replaced by a bolt, and there was wear inside the tranny, too. probably either number one or twelve on the diagram.
good luck.
good luck.
I ordered a short shifter for it the other day, so if it is indeed part #12, i'll be able to determine that when the new shifter goes in
The issue has been found. This is the final post for this thread.
My problem was the shifter was completely rotted out. When I removed the pivot bolt (1x12mm) and then the mounting bolts and bracket (2x10mm nuts) and pulled the shifter down, the bearings literally just fell out of the shifter. The bearings are pressed in, so there should be no play. My short shifter is now installed and the gearbox feels night and day. Shifts are SOOOO much more solid/crisp now, and there is no slop in the shifter once the car is in gear.

Wish i would have seen this a few days earlier i would have told you that, i had a teg and I though the U joints in the llinkage were worn but as soona s i pulled odwn the linkage buching in the bottom of the shifter was worn and just fell out, easily replaced with a short shifter or just ordering new O-rings from honda, glad you figure it out
Not a huge deal....
I swapped a Z6 in it this weekend....along with doing the short shifter so I didnt have to go to much extra work to get this sorted out
