Default Fast Idle Valve...???

I'm just curious what is the purpose of the Fast Idle Valve on my D15B? I believe it's to warm up the car and bring it to operating temps right? Is it okay to remove the valve or will that hurt things some how?
The reason I ask is because I always let my car warm up before I drive it and the valve has always given me problems. It makes the car rev up high sometimes for no reason (like while I'm sitting at the stop light). And while it warms up even if it's at operating temps it keeps it idled up until I rev it a few times.
Basically it annoys me and I'd like to take it off. Is that good or bad?

Thanks, Davey

Just clean it out, should solve your problem.

I've switched intake manifolds on my Si, with the newer intake manifold not having a hole for the fast idle valve. So I just let the plug hang, and there was no adverse effects, no CEL. It idles the exact same as it did with the FIV.

you cant eliminate it, your car wont run, unless you open the throttle plate, which is stupid, all that will do is wear out the stop screw, mandating an adjustment every 500 miles or so, pain in the ***. if it is ****** up, get it replaced, also check the tension on the throttle cable, if it is too tight, it will cause that to happen, because the tb is still open, or, if the spring is weak, causing the vacuum to open the tb a hair.
