hey does it make sense having both the hondata s300 and the msd ignition?...does the hondata do what the msd does?...i dont know much about the hondata...any information with these two together would be helpful...thanks in advance

 

I believe MSD is supposed to pulse your spark plugs multiple times so you get multiple short discharges instead of one long discharge. I've read plenty of nasty things about MSD in H-T threads, best to search and read up on your own.

It looks like the Hondata s300 interfaces with your ECU and allows you control over many (all?) ECU functions. The ECU wouldn't be involved in pulsing your spark plugs multiple times a second like an MSD.

 

MSD is a waste of money.

That's the 1st time I've heard that. If it's such a waste of money than why are they still in business and why do they have so many repeat customers? MSD gives better: throttle response, low/mid/high range power, idles smoother, etc...

If you're just using the cap with an external coil it's not worth it but if you have the ignition box like the SCI it makes a difference. Putting the MSD on won't give you a huge gain in power but it does help in a lot of areas that are weak with stock ignitions. I have MSD on my '69 Camaro and on my hatch. It should work fine in conjunction with your S300.

 

MSD ignitions are GARBAGE, don't touch them, I have personal experience

 

so so far we only only one person agrees that msd is good on hondas...i dont understand how come so many ppl buy msd ignitions and no one seem to like it...anyone that has any personal experiences with the product?

Because everyone else is doing it. It's cool. Honestly, it's almost pointless as stock Honda ignitions are good up to 250-300hp, or more.

I run an msd and it works well are you going to have a huge power gain from it no but do they work...yes! I changed mine out after the coil pack went bad in my Eg. I ended up having to tow the car 40 miles and was with out a car for 2 days because no one had the coil in stock. At least this way I can walk into any parts store and get a coil.

 

that looks like a thumbs up for the ignition is good...lets keep it coming...

 

u have to ask yourself why do u want to upgrade your ignition system? people upgrade theirs because when they upgraded their engine and hp, the stock ignition system can't burn the increase amount of fuel efficiently. what did u do/mod your engine that you think u should need the ignition upgrade?

MSD is really junk on their low end model/system, if u have opened any of them and check their internal, u will see what i mean. and plus, there are lot of fault advertisement about their product too.......

 

i picked mine up for 40 bucks from a friend that needed some cash wuick and it idles smoother and better gas mileage......feels better up to too.....

i am under the impression that the mutiple spark is very good for igniting fuel mixtures and that the larger external coil does not need as much time to rechrage in between fires thus causing a stronger spark....correct me if i am wrong

right, but do u know up to what rpm will the ignition box(i assume 6AL?) do the multiple spark? on the white paper said it is up to 3k rpm, but some individual test lab show it is not even make it up to 3k rpm.

and for the coil recharge time, since the multiple discharge is not going to be available(technically, there is not enough time to do a multiple spark above 4k anyway), do u think a coil which is used by main car maker like honda will not be fast enough to recharge for designed rpm range? well, let prove it, a normal coil dwell time would be around 2-3ms, assume your car can put out 9k rpm, and for a 4 stroke engine it only sparks 2 times per engine cycle, so at 9k rpm it need to spark 300 times in a sec. so it got 3.3ms between each spark, so it looks totally fine in my book, and unless u want to go over that rpm range or u really building a high hp setup which reqiure a lot more spark to burn the fuel, i dont see any point of switching ignition part unless they are wore out.

 

msd is needed running a high horsepower motor.i was all motor only making 241 whp on a b20/vtec.my stock ignotion couldnt cut it so i used a msd digital 6 with blaster coil.worked perfect.
