Binding Brakes on 91 Prelude Si
Hey all!
My cousin has a 91 Prelude Si with disk brakes in the rear. She hears a clicking sound comming from the rear driver side brakes, so she takes it to Honda to have it checked.
The tech at honda shows us that the pads were recently changed by the previous owner, but the shims on the rear driver side are bent up and it is scraping on the rotor as the wheel turns, so it needs new shims and the rear rotors need resurfacing.
The tech also shows us that the rear passenger wheel was binding, and it could hardly be turned by hand.
They were quoting her $900 for that brake job fixing both wheels.
I told her that I'll do it for her, because they are robbing her.
My question is, Is this a easy brake job, like how it would be easy to do on the front?
Do you think the parking brake could have influenced the passenger rear wheel binding? I hope that the Honda tech was not robbing us by having the parking brake up while showing us that the wheel could not turn on one side.
Do you think the parking brake could be the cause of that one wheel binding, by malfunctioning?
What steps would you recommend I take to trouble shoot the parking brake before I take off the brakes?
What would I need to buy if I am to do this job:
-Changing brake calipers on both sides
-Changing brake pads on both sides
-resurfacing or buying new rotors
Is there anything tricky I have to know about to do this job, for example with the parking brake or ABS or anything?
PS: She is in Philly, so I am only going to get to work on this over weekends when I visit.

I'm pretty sure the rear brakes are the same ease as the front. Two bolts on the back of the caliper to remove it, and the pads. Then there's two screws holding the rotor on. It's cheap to get the rotors from Advance and the fronts were 44$/pair.
I don't know what the damage is on the binding, sorry

Well, honda said that they were not that bad, but since I will have limited time with which to work on the car, I might just get Advance rotors instead of having to wait on them to get resurfaced.
Does the shim kit come with the brake pads? or would I need to buy those separate?
WHere is the best place to buy the shim kit? The ones that are on there now are bent up.

I'm pretty sure the pad set will come with shims, but you'll want to confirm that with Advance or wherever you get the parts. Maybe just open the box and take a look when you pick them up. It looks like the pad set (#1) comes with shims though:

*by the way, I have a house down on Powhatan and my parents live in poquoson. Did you ever go to Vapog meets?

No, I didnt know there was a VApog meet. I thought VADriven was the main meeting site around the 757. I never really checked it out though. How often do you guys meet?
