would Hawk, EBC Green Stuff, Axxis be too extreme for daily driving?

no, they're all good, it's whatever doesn't hurt your wallet.

 

carquest ceramics work pretty good too.

are they the hardest pads Axxis make? wouldn't it be too harsh?

 

for regular driving brake pads just go to a autostore and see what they have. don't get the cheapest or the most expensive.

something with recognition and good price. i know at my pepboys they sell ebc greenstuff (which i read is good) for cheaper than oem honda pads.

how much they charge you? I searched on ebay found out that OEM are roughly 35-40 bucks, and EBC Green Stuff is about 45-55.

 

i see ebc greenstuff for sale at pepboys for 39.99 not sure what regular price is.

and i have not checked on the honda pads at the dealership. but my friends said its more at honda depending on where you go.

also, check out aem's brake pads. made by nissin which is what honda use.

You have countless options, from bottom-of-the-barrel generic pads at the local auto parts store, to OEM Honda Nissin pads, to the well known aftermarket companies such as Hawk, EBC, PBR, Cobalt, Carbotech, etc. Hawk offers a complete line of friction compounds, from stock-level replacements all the way up to track-only race pads, and Axxis/PBR/Repco also offers several different pad models. Just saying "Hawk" and "Axxis" is not specific enough.

If you're just looking for a basic brake pad with stock qualities for daily driving, I would recommend OEM Honda pads, which are manufactured by Nissin. They have low dust output, excellent longevity, and enough bite for daily driving on most street tires. A set of OEM front pads for a '99 CX/DX/HX/LX (45022-SR8-A01) is $50 + tax from your local Honda dealer. A set of OEM front pads for a '99 EX/EX-ABS/Si (45022-S01-A02) is also $50 + tax from your local Honda dealer.

If you want to try an aftermarket brand, I would recommend Hawk's Performance Ceramic compound or Axxis/PBR/Repco Deluxe Plus compound for your needs.

okay, I think I will settle with OEM Honda pads for now, and then try other brands to see the difference.

anyways, I see Axxis/PBR Deluxe pads but not Deluxe Plus... is there a difference?

also, I read about AEM pads and they are manufactured by Nissin... so are they exactly the same OEM Honda pads?

 

aem says they are better than oem but i really doubt they are.

 

PBR are decent. I bought some a year ago, forgot which series tho.

Testing several different pads first-hand is really the only way to determine what is best for your needs. Brake pad compound is very preferential, with most people preferring a certain dust level, noise level, longevity, price, temperature range, friction coefficient, rotor wear, bite profile, and/or modulation characteristics (or any particular combination thereof). It takes some time and money, but eventually you find something you like. I've tested many brake pad compounds on my cars, including (in no particular order):

- generic AutoZone organic pads
- OEM Honda (Nissin)
- AEM (Nissin)
- EBC Greenstuff
- Axxis/PBR/Repco MetalMaster (now called XBG)
- Axxis/PBR/Repco Ultimate
- Hawk Performance Ceramic
- Hawk HP+
- Cobalt GT-Sport (discontinued)
- Cobalt Spec-B (track only, discontinued)

I also intend to test a set of Carbotech 1106 (Panther Plus) for street/autocross and Carbotech 1108 (XP8) for HPDE/lapping in the future. I am also waiting to see what new compounds Cobalt Friction will be offering since they moved to their new facility.

The Deluxe Plus are currently shown on the Axxis web site. I believe the Deluxe Plus recently replaced the Deluxe.

No, they aren't. Nissin manufactures both pads, however the AEM pads use a different, slightly more aggressive compound than OEM Honda pads.

 

I has aem and they worked good and lasted awhile also.

Bump...getting pads:

For a spirited driving scenario, which pads would be best? In otherwords, I want something that I can drive with everyday but also be high in performance, although they don't have to be made for the track.

Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm considering the Hawk performance pads.
