I was very disappointed to, at first, when I saw all the dust on my 04 from the brakes. But a lot of brake dust has usually been a sign of a good brake pad. And after a few track sessions, the stock setup is great for 20-30 min session on the track. Very little fade on extremely hot days.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Re: AP1 or AP2 front brake pads (Tyson)
i can't remember where i "heard" that they indeed discontinued the ap1 brake pad, dont quote me on that though,
looks like you answered your own question in the 2nd quote.
ap1 = less dust,
ap2 = more dust, car magazines said they had a little more "bite" but hardly noticable unless at near limit.
when my ap1 run out, im sticking to the same oem if their still available by then

Re: AP1 or AP2 front brake pads (SilverDc2)
like i said, im just trying to consolidate information to one thread. i dont want to go into other aftermarket pads, there are other threads about that.
extra dusting definately seems common in all the reviews im reading on AP2 pads.
this weekend i went driving around malibu, and my front AP1 pads cooked. they couldnt take it. not sure if its because theyre worn down now. otherwise, theyre completely suitable and even great for street, as they are intended.
but ill probably get some AP1 replacements due to the lower dusting. and then some aftermarket pads for when i need them. (no need for recommendations, i can search)
any more info and experience is welcome.

The AP1 pads dust a small fraction of what the AP2 pads do. If you don't care about brake dust on the wheels then go for AP2s. I personally run the AP1 pads on the street and race pads on the track.
