Default before my mini me swap...

After being inspired by the results of one of my friends cars, I have decided to do a mini me turbo on my D16y7 sedan. My search for all of the parts has provoked a couple of questions. If I have to get an Ex intake manifold and throttle body, should I just go ahead and upgrade to performance, such as a Skunk 2. I only say Skunk 2 because I have heard pretty good things about them. And also, is it possible to use a B18 throttle body on the D16y8 manfiold? Thanks!

take my advice. if you plan on running a obd1 p28, you're going to want to get a d16z6 and set your base timing to 16btdc and NOT 12btdc.

if you want you can pull the crank pulley off and make a 16degree timing mark with a protractor.

if you plan on running an obd2 ecu then get a d16y8 head and set base timing to 12BTDC.

If I were you i'd just get a delta 272 regrind of your cam and then get a d16y8 intake manifold.

sohc vtec isn't that much better than sohc non-vtec. take d-series advice from someone with d-series experience.

ITs called SOHC-T not MINI ME
but anyways you might want to get low compression pistions for the turbo and to get even more performance upgrade your head like valve springs retainers(titainium) cam and cam gears possible port and polish job but thats up to you and i Heard that skunk2 does have good quality.

Now concerning the throttle body, no it wont fit remember D fit D series
B fit B series H fit H series and so on and so forth.

WRONG, first, the y7 and y8 combustion chambers are the same size so the compression wont change AT ALL, secondly an LS throttle body will bolt directly to any B or D series manifold except the VX/CX manifold.

depending on how much you want to spend should determine if you go w/ an aftermarket manifold, skunk2 is a good choice for boost and will help the midrange and top end a good bit in a boosted setup while not KILLING your bottom end considerably.

as for "BENSE" comment, take that to heart, if you want it to stay together just grab an OBD1 motor, or boost the y7 w/out the mini-me. the head swap wont give you much more power on a boosted motor.

According to compression calculators, the compression of a y7/y8 mini me should be roughly 9.96:1. The pistons and piston-to-deck height are different between a y7 and y8 block.

It called a SOHC-T, not a mini me. A Mini Me is a sohc non vtec block with a sohc vtec head.

as far as the y7 and the y8 sharing the same combustion chambers, I don't know if that's correct.

Several people and calcs say that the y7 and y8 share the same chambers, but then there are people that say it's the same as a z6 chamber. and then others say that it's the same as a d15b7/d16a6 chamber.

I dunno which it is to be honest I keep getting different answers.

get a camshaft regrind, valve springs and retainers. Some ARP headstuds (d16y8 ones will fit) and then start your boost build.

ah, you are right about the piston height and piston to deck clearances being differant, but think about this, honda list the y7 and y8 as the same static compression, so regardless, if the combustion chamber size doesnt change the static compression wont change. think of swapping a y8 head onto a y5 shortblock, the compression stays the same just a differant head.

going on the compression calculators, depending on which you use, will show differant things, but knowing for sure that the combustion chamber on a P2E head is the same as a P2P head yields no compression change when swapping.
