Default Integra engine blown, please help me decide..

Hi. MY brother has a 90 integra ls, and the motor just died. We found another ls motor for $1100 installed with about 60000 miles. The other option is a jdm b16 for $1800( i had this done in my civic, the shop is very reliable)(www.sinmay.com)Is the choice obvious? JUst had to post it so our Dad could see the truth in black and white. Thanks a lot.

be sure if your going that route to include budgeting for the tranny. As far as i know the different gearing is a must to get the full benifit. If you arnt intrested in going that way see what a b18B would run you or even if it would work with the b18a computer. This imnot sure of but so reasons to consider this motor over the b16: torque. If you arnt going to work this car up the added torque in the b18b would equate out to much better driveability around town. Dont just get this motor because everyone tells you to. Yes, its a great engine, no doubt. Find out if the tranny is needed as well as the computer which will be needed as well.

comparing the b18 to b16? b16 has way much more potential in my opinion.

I just swaped a b18b1 into my 90 ls. Yeah you will need the old distributer of your old motor plus the wiring harness and the fuel injectors.

b18 over b16 b/c

1. Around town, before you hit vtec, you will notice the torque loss withthe b16.
2. The b16 only makes 18 more horsepower for 700 more dollars. And to even notice the 18 extra horsepower you have to rev the engine hard.
3. B16 with a LS tranny will feel even worse because you'll find the LS gearing to be too tall for the b16. Hell it's too tall for the b18 too, so the b16 would be even worse.

The b16 only has vtec going for it, which isn't worth the 700 dollars when you'll be giving up driveability around town.

Search classifieds. you can find an LS block for around $800 + shipping.

a b16 would be better to mod...unless you were gonna go extreme with the LS and boost it or something. a b18c1 would be the ideal choice however. running high compression pistons and headwork would net some decent gains on the b16...dont kno if i can say the same for the b18b.
