i am going to powder coat my valve cover red instead of just having it painted red. the paint is wearing out and powder coat looks better. when i have the cover off how do you get it so i can see the cam gears, just cut the cover along the cam gear cover? if i dont feel like cutting it can i just undo those 2 bolts on the cam gear cover? ive never taken it off this is why i would like to make sure im not ******* anything up. i am still considered a noob when it comes to cars so someone please help me out.
Hello fellow n00b,
In my opnion, I wouldn't cut the valve cover unless youv'e got adjustable cam gears
PS. Try giving the Valve Cover a slight sandblast after the powdercoating, haven't
seen nor tried it but I think it'll look better than the glossy powdercoated look...
Post a pic when it's done

i will post pics eventually, however as far as the cam gears go i would still like to get hte cover off so i can see them, i still think the stock ones look cool, plus i would like to be able to check up on my timing belt

why would you need to check up on your timing belt? i mean is it moving all the time? if you have to check it often, sounds like a problem you should fix.

IMO, you should leave the belt fully enclosed unless you have adjustable cam gears then I could understand the half moon cut out. Otherwise why risk a pebble or something getting in there just so it LOOKS COOL. Too risky for me.

Just for the record, I have had zero timing belt covers for 2 1/2 years now driving my car every day and I have never had a problem with it. Of course you have to avoid rocky roads and such, but my timing belt still looks 100% good. Maybe I've been lucky...

i never drive my car in gravel, never drive it in the rain, in other words i take really good care. and yes the reason i would like to have it open is so that i can check up on it to see if it ever gets stress cracks and wear. i bag my car pretty hard to majority of the time not to mention it is suppose to be about time to get a new one. i would like to make sure it is time and keep it exposed. imo it looks really sweet and im not worried at all about it getting a rock in the gears.
