Default possibly rings?

i just pulled the oil filler cap off my lude whenit was running and i expected a breeze to come out but there is a damn tornado coming out of it so i took it for a drive for 10 mins and opened it up again and now theres a bit of puffy smoke coming out, also when i noticed before when i reved up real high in second and then let of the gas to change gear there was a sound like someone throwing sand in a bucket. any ideas i thought it may be my rings but my mechanic said they would be very suprised if it were rings, bad breather system maybe?

Do a compression or leak down test. Get some dry numbers then repeat the compression test "wet". Pour a capful of oil into the cylinder and run the test again. If your numbers improve, then it could be your rings. If you have over 10% leakdown, it's also telling you your rings are worn.

no idea, have you hit the throttle rotor while you are looking at the engine to try to find the noise? do a compression test, that'll give you a hint to if its the rings or not. are you throwing any codes?

not throwing any codes at the minute, i'm going to get a compression tester myself because my mechanic says doing the test wont prove anything and i think he just cant be bothered doing it, i can only hear the noise when its really high rpm's then i lift to change gear and you hear this slight noise like sand in a bucket, i'm not going to try and repeat this untill i find the problem though or i might be on here asking for help cos my engine ceased anybody on here had ring failure on an H22? i mean on a regular H22, not turbo. i've been told its very unusual

Yeah, you don't hear of many H22s with bad rings...you could try a new PCV valve, that's pretty cheap and easy.

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation. It's a check valve from the valve cover to the intake manifold where the IM sucks air out of the crankcase to keep the pressure down. If it's not working, it's just going to build up in there. You also have a tube from the intake to the valve cover which is the 'air intake' for the crankcase, so basically it goes in that tube and out the PCV valve into the intake manifold and usually bringing oil vapors with it (that's why people use oil catch tanks).

i'll call the stealership 2moro and see if i can get one, but i dont think it would be that because if the crankcase had positive pressure the seals would be weeping, i hope it is that but we'll find out when i change it.

When the engine is hot, if you remove the oil cap you will ALWAYS see a little puff of white smoke. The oil/engine is very hot during operation. When you stop the car, the left over oil on the top of the cam plates drips down onto the cams which are uber hot, and a little is burned hence the white little puff. Not a big deal.

You made need a valve adjustement or something along the lines.

there should be little puffs of gas aswell but there is far to much gas puffing out, we've looked at it and there's to much back pressure in the crankcase for it to be normal, am not burning to much oil either but who knows
