Crazy tach, spark cutting out, car turning off
OK so John's car (jd3jdm) is being gay...heres the symptoms
anytime you give more than 1/2 throttle, the tach goes crazy and then spark is cut out like its hits a rev limiter
on the highway the other night, the tach was going back and forth and john could barely touch the gas without the spark getting cut (engine just sputters and dies)
randomly the thing will just shut off while cruising
here's what we have done so far:
changed out the computer (p28) with my computer(p28) of course we swapped the PROMs too...his computer ran fine in my car... but his car still had the problem..so its not computer related
hes running a h23 ignition with the external coil...
What should we check..besides grounds...
can we eliminate the coil b/c if we had a bad coil then the damn thing wouldnt even start correct??

Sounds like it's probly the ignitor inside the dizzy, also check all ur grounds, I had a problem just like this and turned out to be the weirdest thing of all. I had so much corrosion on my battery terminals, fixed that and that problem went away. Also, what rpm does it cut out at, and are u getting any cels?
no cels....it cuts out well under 5000 rpm when you go more than 1/2 half throttle...on the highway it cuts out at cruising speed between 3000-4000 rpm

Yeah grounds would be a good thing to look for, also make sure the connections on ur ignitor are nice and tight, the tach gets its signal from the ignitor.
have you replaced the main relay? that sounds like the prob to me.
doubt its the battery terminals cuz that wouldnt make the car die.
