Help, my Civic is reving itself!
Apparently my Civic saw Fast and the Furious once too many times. At idle especially, and sometimes in drive and reverse, the car will sit there and REV itself by about 1000rpm. It seems to happen more once the car is warmed up. The car also seems to have a very high idle when it is first started. (About 3000) I have no idea what the problem could be. We recently completed a block swap and the car runs very well other than that, the only thing I thought it could be was maybe a vacuum line in the wrong spot or something. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

throttle cable. it does the same thing on mine in my 91' DA teg. put your foot underneath the gas pedal, and pull it back towards you. if it stops or slows, then its the throttle cable...if not could be something to do with your idle sensor.
wow, im a girl and i just made an intelligent post lol

this most be common today. sounds like your fast idle valve. most likely just needs cleaning.
this link should help you.

I would suggest cleaning it. does it ever idle normally? could it be your idle is set too high?
man philosofy1 your always like 30 secs in front of me. LOL

idle is usaully set at the factory. if you noticed (atleast on my hondas) there is a seal on top of the idle screw (a bitch to break). usaully this is used when the idle is low and then needs adjusting.

Either that or a vacuum line. If you want, many aftermarket shops sell block-off plates for the FITV. That's what I have on my car, and I haven't had a problem with the idle since.

Checked everything possible, everything looked right... so I decided to pull off the TB and check the IACV... looked pretty clean, then I noticed that something on the inside of it was rattling. Remembered I had an old Del Sol TB, so I pulled the IACV off of that one, and sure enough, no rattle. So, swapped the IACVs, at this point I'm 99% sure that had to be the problem. Waiting for some gasket maker to dry, so won't know til morning, though. It seems uncommon for them to actually fail, wonder what could have happened to it.
edit: Actually, the rattle was comming from the inside of the FITV, not the IACV, now that I look at the link posted above. Replacing it with the Del Sol FITV should have fixed the problem

the one u pulled off is still good all u have to do is screw the pice inside back in what kinda motor mounts are in ur car b/c if ur car vibates thats most of the time what makes it back out like that

what the hell? i can't understand a damn word your trying to say. for starters you're missing a couple of periods on your post. so it's hard to read. and what does motor mounts have to do with why is engine is idling funny? read the thread better.

adjust the throttle cable linkage, then adjust the idler skrew,
if its "reving" itself, its called Searching, which means the idle is set too high and the computer is trying to compensate. Give more slack in the throtle cable-losen the screws, then make small adjustments on the ideler(sp) screw on the top part of the TB-there is a flat screw one way increases idle speed, other way decreases.

tighten the wax screw in your FITV or replace it all together and be done with it. I think he was trying to say the screw backed out possibly because of aftermarket motor mounts, which is crap. IAC valves taking dumps arent that uncommon as you'd think, just search idle on here and see how many posts there are about it.
dont you people read, he took the FITV off and it was "rattling" inside..theres your problem. No more junk about throttle cables or idle screws, which by the way if he did the procedure you just told him to do his idle would be even more f'd up..
