Default ac bogging down the engine?

i just bought a certified pre-owned '03 accord ex v6 6-speed. so far i love the car but i've noticed when driving with the ac on, the car will hesitate every 30 seconds or so, as though the ac is putting a lot of strain on the engine. it only lasts for a second or two and it feels like the car is driving through molasses for that second, then back to normal. this doesn't happen when the ac is off. does anyone know what the problem could be?

p.s. i know the ac makes the engine work harder and causes a slight loss in hp, but this isn't a constant loss of power. as i said, it's like it cycles every 30 seconds or so.
