Default HELP !!! I´ve melt 2 spark plugs using CIVIC R pistons, HELP !!!

My ITR today just stop after the first hard drive after break in period.
Hard drive only for 3 minutes, in 5º gear.

I called a mechanic and after trying to put the engine ON, he removed the plugs and the 1st, 2nd cilinder was completly melted, i couldn´t believe it.

We could see trought the plug that the pistons are destroyed, i´m running 16´s timing and stock injection, no fuel add on the V-AFC.

Help, Help !!!

Sounds like you were running quite a bit lean!
Sorry to hear that.

You probably ran lean and that is what caused the plugs to melt. Either that or you experienced detonation. I am runing CTR pistons in my GSR, but I have my base timing at 14 degrees. If you run 16 degrees without adding more fuel, then you get detonation.

I couldn´t hear the detonation cause of the exaust, too much noise.
The ITR was pulling ok, when it happened.

I was about 150 mph, ( for 1 minute only ) usually it goes over 162 at red line, that was with the stock pistons. I was about 60% of throtlle.

I can´t believe this is happening to me, i spent a lot of money on this and now i´ll have to open the engine again and check how the cilinders are and the pistons.

What do you think, the metal pieces of the plugs are gone trought the exaust valves ?

My timing adjustment is almost in the max, only 2 mm before the max, and it is at 16 timing.
I told my Honda mechanic to low the timing to 13 or 14 but he didn´t listen to me.

The B16C6 head is diferente from the B16C5 engine.

I´m so %$#&# with this.

SGT any thoughts ????

B18C6 head is same as B18C5 head.

So you took it to 150+mph without tuning?
I assume you have no extra fuel(and you CANT add fuel with a vafc)
what were you thinking? You have noone to blame for this situation but
yourself. I think you will find some marks on the pistons and possibly
the chambers on the head. Hope your valves didnt sit down on those pieces
or you will have a lot more to worry about.

U mean b18c5 and b18c6 right? Sounds to me like your gonna need to rip it open and see what happened.

I can´t add fuel with the V-AFC ???

SGT what do you think that caused this ?
Detonation, because the timing advance or fuel lean ?
I´m using 98 octane fuel.

Thanks.

If you are running more compression you should have thought about the fuel requirements of the engine first - how do you expect the stock ECU to make such an adjustment? (especially when you note the fact that you have not changed the fuel mapping at all). Why do you have the timing so advanced?

My honda mechanic told me 16 is the stock timing advance, + or - 2 degrees.
So he thinks this is the best timing advance.

I told him to put the timing at about 13 or 14 but he didn´t care.
Also he told me not to adjust the fuel curve in the V-AFC during breake in.

Stupid !!!!!

Hi just rev for 1 or 2 minutes in 5º gear, i never thought this could happen.

1-2 MINUTES???? Geez man.

You need more pressure or larger injectors to add fuel. VAFC isnt able to.
You probably ran it real lean or just detonated. I would put my money on
detonation. Have fun rebuilding the motor... again.

btw, you dont have much room to be calling your mechanic stupid.
He isnt the one who did high speed runs in your car.

It also doesnt take a brain surgeon to turn the distributor back a bit, hell turn it a little further than you think is nessary until you can get someone you trust to check it with a timing light.

My mechanic told me that the timing should be 16º.
I explained him that someone here from the forum told me to delay it to 13.5º or 14º.

But he didn´t agree on that.
Now my motor is $#&$%$, ok...

whatever doesnt cause detonation and you NEED MORE FUEL!!!!
you NEED to STOP RACING and PUSHING THE MOTOR until you have it PEROPERLY TUNED!!!

SGT, do you think i can raise the fuel with proper settings on the V-AFC ?

Does the V-AFC really raise the fuel up to 50% ?

Sorry, about these questions, but i have a V-AFC, but i wasn´t using it cause of the break in period, before the CTR pistons i was using +12 at 8k, max.

Thanks,

Pinota
