Default building a head....

so im building up an H22 head for myself. well im planning on getting type S cams and I know that there is a possible clearance issue that I would rather avoid. well if i use only the RM retainers and stock springs, wont that be good enough?

The retainers are all you need, but go the extra mile.

I most likely would have anyway, unless someone really tried to talk me out of it.

I really dont think it the type-s cams
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1763499
it happens to factory and abouts all of the aftermarket cams.
maybe it the valve lash
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1671032
check out both links.
their doesn't seem to be a clear answer.
I know their are people running them in their car with out problems.
crower say that the problem happens at .490 degrees of lift.
type-s cams only have 473(dont qoute me on any of the numbers)
but the type-s cam doesn't reach the required lift to cause interfearnce.
maybe its coil bind or not properly setting the valve lash.
very rare either way.

yeah, ive never gotten a clear cut answer on it, but ive also never heard of anyone have to modify the guides and seats for any high lift cam. maybe people just dont talk about it? crower and RM are the only companies that have the higher clearance that I know of. so if there was a problem wouldn't it be well known?

If you look on crower website they tell you the specs of all factoy h22a cams
http://crower.com/cat/import/honda/cams/h22.shtml
they say the interference happens at a certin amount of lift
clearly the lift of the type-s cams is not enough for this to happen

I called Dusty or Danny(i forgot) at crower and he said that it wouldn't need retainers to clear the guide. Notice none of the cars burned any oil or had any noticeable problems. its got to be coil bine. an another note he said that he could could make custom cams for the h22 for $550. like 496 Gross Lift w/1.55 and what ever duration you can build your bottom end to. say 9500 rpms,if you dare

yeah well, bottom end will be lacking becasue i want to keep it streetable. ive got a brnad new set of type S pistons ready to go. and it pointless to get too much duration without raising the compression way up. in my opinion.

true. but thats the beauty of vtec. maybe stage 3 h23 #1 lobe, h23 stage #2 lobe for non vtec lobes and custom grind crower any spec that i want on the vtec lobes still for $550. thats custom and cheaper than alot of cams on the market and + you get what you need per indivual motor
im going to try it.

explain
