Turbo/tuning issue
this might be a common thing... maybe not for the H-T guys here but for some of us... anyways... my friend had a turbo on his car and without tuning it.. he ran it for a couple of months... decided he didnt want it anymore and took it off... the problem now is that its smoking like crazy, especially when he punches it, when it hits vtec, or when its in high rpm. i know that the usual cause of this would probably be the rings??? yess he did rip on it when it wasnt tuned... dumb idea he knows now im sure lol. anyways does that sound right? one of my other boys said that it could be bent valve.. but he took his head in for a valve job, new retainers... but still smokes and loses oil fast. any suggestions?
no, havent had time to work on it much... but were going to this weekend if we have time to look at it. what should the numbers be for a stock b16a across the board? before.. when he had the turbo on... it would burn like a qt of oil every 3-4 days. now it doesnt seem like it burns so much now that the turbo is off.. but it still does burn oil. also... his cat is off, i know this would give off some polution... but it shouldnt be toooo bad right? so does burnt out rings sound like a reasonable educated guess for this? if the compression is off.... what are the possibilities? thanks fellas
Rings would sound like an educated guess, but non sealing valve stem seals could as well, and probably a few other things I am not thinking of. Clogged PCV system and so on.
Numbers would probably be 180-230 or so depending on what type of compression gauge you use, what really matter is if they are close to one another between cylinders to show equal wear.

best possible solution.... rip it apart and take a look?? after a comp test... that is. ahh yeh, i heard of the pcv valve clogging up... im gonna look into that tonight. any other suggestions? i just dont want to rip her apart and leave her down for too long.
