Well some of you know I bought a used Comptech header, cleaned it up and then was waiting to install it this weekend. Well finally got the time to and it was more then I bargained for. Upper heat shield,lower heat shield and header bolts....some of which you barely can even turn it inch by inch. Thank God for Comptech's quality, it bolted up with no problems whatsoever. Glad I didnt give up! If someone need me to do a write up on how to install a header and give some pointers on what you'll encounter, please let me know. There is a few things that can benefit you if you know it before hand instead of figuring it out along the way. Here are the pics.

Question:
NOW, with the install done. Has anyone who installed a header NOT reinstall the upper heat shield? If you did not reinstall the upper heat shield, did you have any problems with melting parts or any issues? I'm supercharged and I'm not sure if it'll make much of a difference with heat but I'd like to know if I might have any problems(AC line/battery). I like how it looks better without the upper heatshield and rather not have it on, but if its gonna pose as a problem, I rather put it back on.

Nice job on the clean up. I have a Rick's header and did put the top heat shield on. I drove it that way for awhile and have since taken it off without issues.

I haven't seen any complaints/issues from those who have removed their heatshields. Keep in mind that your engine bay temp will be higher. Many have vented hoods so they figure it doesn't matter. I would put back on if you can fit it. If you do not, its fine by you should put the thin black heatshield back to protect the electrical stuff

 

The thin black heat shield is the upper heat shield. You cant put the lower (header) heat shield back on cause Comptech does not support that heat shield. You have no brackets to screw it back too. Some header do though, like Rick's.

I just drove it for a good 20 minutes today and its nice and gold now. One thing I did notice though was that the skeleton of my carbon fiber hood (right above the header) was pretty dame hot. I guess there's really nothing I can do seeing that the header does not have any brackets for the header shield to bolt onto. And the upper heat shield mainly protects sideways only, instead of preventing heat from going up.

looks great the only problem that i can think of would be the A/C lines, with that rubber wraped around it, it may melt it. but once again great job, how did you make it all nice and shiny!

 

I've decided to put the upper heat shield back on....just to be safe. I drove it for 30 minutes and touched the AC lines and the rubber that wraps around it was hot to the touch. Thats pretty hot.
