Sputters when cold
Hey guys. My B16A3 on my del sol has been giving me troubles lately. I put some regular gas in it by mistake (i always use premium). When i left the station, the car would bog really bad, like some cylinders were not firing. Opened the hood and check my plugs, saw i had some water down the tubes so i cleaned that up. Also just did my oil, put a little too much in so i'll drain some out (could that cause any problems in short term?) Now after all this it only bogs when its cold.
Now, my cap and rotor (OEM) have 2k miles on them, wires and plugs (which are tan and just fine) about 20k (NGK, not OEM).
I am thinking it might be that it might be a bad ignitor/coil or wires. What do you guys think?

Check your firing orders and wire locations. That is more than likely the problem. Either that or the water hydroliocked it partially in a couple cylinders.
Good luck either way though man.

A very good possiblity. Due to not making a good seal around the valve seats. But I don't know if that would be caused by hydrolock would it? Usually it is a bent rod that is caused by hydrolock.

no see i have had water (just littlebit) in it before and that was the culprit of the bogging. Im just thinking its something in the dizzy. If a coil is bad, will the car run? If the ignitor is bad, will it run?
This has only been since i put 87 octane in the car instead of 91.

My freind had a problem like this his civic would bog down occasionally when it was running cold... I had a set of new plugs and replaced them what it happened to be was his plugs were fine they had gotten wet though so there was mild corrosin on them and the gap was off a tad bit. So I put the new ones in after setting it to the proper gap and his car was back to running like a champ. Id say just try getting them replaced or clean them and check there gap the gap has to be basically dead on or ittl make the cylinder run like crap and cause a sputtering... As for the hydrolock i dont think that could be the problem because even if it were partially running hydrolocked it would cause your engine to run with a pretty bad shake and alot of backfiring wouldnt it? Water does make a good possibility also for the boggin though because if there is steam in the cylinder than I know that it will make the combustion smaller and less powerful if there was water anywhere in your engine id check your cylinder walls for rusting though just my 2 cents hope everything works out for you GL

I thought I was seeing double. There's more information and detail in this thread though and based on all that, it seems like Syndacate was correct in the other thread...As far as the gas not being the cause for the "sputtering."
About the "B16s not pinging with 87" ...I just don't know.
