stick welder suggestions

Default stick welder suggestions

im looking to do little projects and be able to weld metals together.
can anyone give me some recomendations for a basic stick welder that will run on 125volts
what should i look for, etc.

While im sure you can stick weld for automotive applications it sure wont look pretty. Also you will have to clean up slag and what not.

its actualy not for automotive apps. I wanted to get into creating metal art type structures and also get into pulse jet engines, I figured stick would be the cheapest route. Im open to any suggestions or opinions you guys have.

Ah pulse jet engines, they use an ungodly amount of fuel compared to a gas turbine The cheapest route would be oxyacetylene welding (gas welding) would probably be the cheapest. You might want to back purge too but im not sure if that matters much for a pulse jet, that makes it so the inside of the pipe/tube weld is smooth(er).

A cheap GMAW machine would work better than an SMAW machine for what you want to do.

we have a stick welder that runs on 120, I have never used it, I have been told it will barely burn 1/8" rods. Hope this helps.

thanks guys. I think i found a descent old miller for like 100 that has to run on 220. I think itll do the trick.

i have a little harbor freight Hobby arc stick welder i can use it with 115 or 230 (dryer outlet) it works pretty good it can weld pretty thick metal. stick is the way to go if you are just looking for strength
