how hard is it to change tranny fluid??
well im doing all the maintenance stuff on my car since its about to be 150k miles and the tranny is up next. i was wondering how hard is it to change the tranny fluid? is it really hard? would i be better off going to a jiffy lube or something and have them do it? if its quite easy i would rather save the money and accomplish this myself
its just like changing the oil,,jack up car, drain tranny fluid, then fill with 1.9 qt (d-series). theres a shitload of places to fill,,the actual fill plug is a pain in the *** cause of where it is so most people use other places ,,like reverse light, speedo, etc

Its fairly eazy to do yourself. Just raise it up on jackstands up front, then loosen the 17 or 19mm nut or drain plug, after it drains just lower the car close to the ground and run a funnel with like a rubber hose or something of that sort into the same drain plug, make sure that the hose fits in the hole first, have someone pour it from the top while u hold the hose in the hole at the bottom until u see drops coming out the plug hole, let it leak first slightly then put the nut back on, that simple, about 1 hour or 45minutes. Make sure that u use 10w30 motor oil instead of tranny oil because it runs smoother and is not thin like your tranny oil, which tends to burn faster, just my suggestion. Should be a breeze..GOOD LUCK.
I think it is, i've never had any problems with it, using motor oil that is. Tranny fluid works too, but its too thin and burns faster, motor oil works better in my opinion, lasts longer.

This has been debated over and over. Be smart. Use Honda MTF.

Don't ever use tranny fluid.

bolt #11 in this photo shows the location where the Honda engineers placed the hole for you to fill your trans fluid.....they recommend Honda MTF.......Okay, maybe I need to further explain that MTF stands for Manual Transmission Fluid.......Sounds like if I continue, I'll probably need to explain alot more.....
I don't believe that I actually answered this guy...

If you dont use the actual fill plug you CAN overfill.
with the fill plug out you add oil till it runs out the fill hole.

sounds like they are talking about automatic transmission fluid which should NEVER be put in a manual civic/crx tranny.
Appologies if u guys did not mean atf
The factory recommends Honda MTF(manual transmission fluid), or motor oil 10w-30, or 40....20w-50....straight 30w, depending on temperature outside.
