Hi, i have a stock 99 ex civic and i'm wanting to build it n/a. This is going to be my first time building a civic and i dont want to start with a b-series motor cuz i dont wanna mess anything up and waste money. I wanna do this for the experience then move onto a b-series. Can you guys help me start this up. I would like to start with what ever bolt-ons i need and then move on to motor work. I want to end up getting atleast 150 whp.

You don't want to go B because you dont' want to waste any money? Are you kidding me? Making (or trying to make) 150whp NA on a D series <u>IS</u> wasting money. So much machine work, so expensive. Not much will be left that will make it a D series anymore.

EDIT:
It'll probalby put you down as much if not more than a B16 swap to build a D16 to 150 naturally aspired whp.

Nitrous will get you there really cheap!!!! I have a wet 75 shot with I/H/E and ported Intake manifold... and wow it's nice.

 

doesnt the nitrous ruin the motor quick?

Bud, just so you know, if you want 150whp out of a N/A Dseries, you're going to need to pull the engine apart.

Oh, and don't cheap out on ANYTHING. DCsports headers are NOT a performance mod.

 

so are you suggesting that i should just do a motor swap?
Isnt there legal problems for putting a motor that is older than my car model in my car?
i also dont wanna spend to much so the only good motor i would be able to afford is an older b16a motor. I also saw that i would have to change from obd2 to obd1. Is there any disadvanages from going from 2 to 1?

Take what <U>Syndacate</U> said seriously, WASTE OF BLOOTIE MONEY. yes buy a swap, but dont go to obd1. say 2. if you cant afford that then you definitely cant afford to build any motor.

 

Save your money. Don't build your D or go B16. Wait until you have some ample cash from a summer job or something and buy a b18 or something. You'll probably be happier in the long run. If you get halfway into building your D and realize its not worth it, your gonna be bummed.

But thats only what I would do. Whatever you do, GL

 

Beat a b18c1 (quite a few mods too) ej8 easily with the juice. HHhhmmmm 500 for juice or 1500+ for swap with mods. Easy choice. BTW I've sprayed over 30 lbs in 10 days with no problems. Zex wet kit is safe and easy.

 

I've always been a fan of "always there" power, Nitrous makes me angry but it DOES get the job done for fairly cheap but you're also kidding yourself because it's not "ALL MOTOR" with Nitrous. Weigh your options out very well, don't jump into something just because it could net you a small gain in power. Save your money, drive the D16 for a while until you decide what you REALLY want to do.

All motor D IS an option, it's not common and there's not alot of support for it. Will you be able to run sub 14's in a streetable setup? Doubtful.

Bottom line: Save your money, think it out and get something that has TRUE N/A potential.

 

Theres plenty of aftermarket support for the d. You can build a pretty quick d motor using oem parts.

Depends on your definition of "pretty quick" I grew up around Sub 10 second muscle cars all my life, For me...pretty quick implies mid 12's or lower. For my definition, that's not going to happen for a N/A D-series with OEM parts.
