Default Hard Wiring a Cell Phone Charger

I have a 97 EK (Civic HB) and I want to hard wire my VX9800 Cell Phone charger to my car so I can leave my radar detector in my cigarette adapter. I've taken the cigarette adapter part of the charger off the phone and there is a red wire & black wire. The wire size looks likes its a 22 or something really small and I think the fuse on the circuit board is a 125v.

So anyway, what steps need to be taken and is there anyone else that has accomplished this?? PLEASE HELP!!

I'd say splice the wires behind the cigarette adapter.

i got an idea, i dont know if it will work so im lookin for some answers:

the top of the charger has a spring with a cap on it, this is the ground, and there are 2 clamps that come out the side of the charger which is the positive. If I soder a wire from the spring and the clamps then splice the wires behind the cigarette 12v adapter - it will work properly??

I think you are on the right track. It really is as simple as grounding the black and giving 12V to the red wire.

Think again the spring with the cap and fuse is the poss the 2 c shaped clamps on the side are the negative feed. wouldn't it just be easier to get a multi plug for your cigarette lighter. But if you are determined to do it this way just splice into the wiring to the cig lighter make sure you use crimp connectors or solder and heat shrink things to keep them from grounding out. Get a little plastic project box from radio shack to put the circuit board in

so when you get a new phone you'll just cut the wiring you did...

why not just get a plug splitter that has more than one outlet?

Here's what I did when I installed my radar detector. I bought a splitter and cut the male plug off and spliced the red and black wire into the back of the stock lighter. That way the splitter is hidden behind the console. I then plugged my radar detector and invertor into the splitter and ran all the wires behind the dash. That way my radar detector is mounted up by the window and I put the invertor in the glove box. Both look hard wired but are easy enough to remove, and their wiring stayed in intact, and it leaves my stock lighter open for whatever.

Oh, c'mon, welcome to the ghetto, take a look at mine:

A fire hazzard to say the least, this 20 dollar radioshack setup was set up in <4 minuts and works my radar detector:
as well as my cell phone charger and sattelite radio.

Yeah, it looks ugly as ****. Too bad it's only me driving it so I don't really care. If I actually had 100% intentions on keeping the car or caring about it I'd probably hardwire 'em.

Personally, I hard wired my radar detector into the back of the cig lighter.
Then I just ran the wires behind the dash. It looks pretty clean and my cig lighter is still open for whatever I need

On a customers car long ago we added a extra cigarette lighter hidden in his center console storage bin. Go to Napa and look around you will find what you need.

We spliced it into the stock lighter wiring.

Yeah this is by far the best way to do it. Just add another cigg light plug in the center console.
