h22a1 = h22a4

only difference is the main journal sizes (depending on year) and that the a1 is closed deck and the a4 is open deck.

in short, yes it will work. It will increase your stroke which will in turn increase your dynamic (i think) compression.
There is a good bit of information regarding this topic. All you have to do is take a little time to do your own research

IMO no it will not work. H22a4 have 55mm mains, the F22 are all 50mm.

Therefore the crank will not fit correctly in the block

That's the problem he has to overcome. And with an F22 crank (same as the H23 crank) it won't work if he is using a 98+ H22A4 block.

I would look into mating the F22 bottomend to the H22 head. Personally, I would go for the F23 bottomend, but that's just me.

If your crank and block arent that bad just have the tolerences checked, replace the bearings and micropolish rebuild, cheaper in the long run and **** will not take jerry rigging to get it built.

first off what year is the block? 97a4 f22/h23 yes will work

98+ will have to be f23, crazy stroke right there.

what ever you do keep the oil squirters, no matter what anyone tells you...
